°ÀÇ°æÇè ¡°By learning you will teach; by teaching you will learn¡±. This is the sentence that adorned the back wall of one of my high school classrooms. It took me until my graduation before I started to fully comprehend its meaning. Even now, I am learning from this sentence every day. My name is Liliana Li and I am a graduate of BSc Medical Genetics and an MSc of Forensic Science. English is my mother tongue.

My voluntary and paid work as a tutor and an assistant English teacher has awarded considerable experience in teaching children and adults. It is a job I enjoy very much, and I always try to combine my passion for teaching with professionalism. I am currently undertaking the 140-hour TEFL online course. I am a British national and I speak Native British English.

After completing my MSc qualification, I continued working as a tutor and as part of the managing team of a store for over a year. I gained valuable experience in these jobs, and I am keen to put to use the skills I learnt from teaching and the responsibilities of managing a business to good use. The rest of my teaching experience stem from being a volunteer as well as being sent from my company to teach, lecture and assist at neighbouring schools, colleges and institutions. I have taught a variety of subjects, from ages two to the retired. I believe I am an approachable person with a cheerful disposition and fun sense of humour.

I aspire to encourage a sense of wonderment in the world around us through teaching. Although I am a scientist through education, this is not, in my mind, an exclusive clique. We are all scientists at heart. We wonder about the world around us and continue to ask the "how?" and "why?" questions in order to advance and improve. Only if answers to these questions continue to come (either from the teacher, or, better yet, through reasoned thought on the part of the one asking), will the questions continue to flow. I hope through my teaching, to reach out to the naturally inquisitive mind of children and to encourage them to seek out progression of their knowledge. If you study to ¡®remember¡¯, you will forget, but if you study to ¡®understand¡¯, you will remember.

In the teaching environment, I hope to be able to present English as a subject in a way that catches the interest of my students, clarifying difficult. I hope to guide them through complex themes and put knowledge into context so that its application is clear. I believe that teachers are facilitators of learning, rather than a connoisseur who simply deliver information to students. I hope to channel my enthusiasm to support students to develop a passion for learning. I believe that when they do, they will never cease to grow.

In the globalised, multi-cultural world of the 21st century, I anticipate to be part of an international professional experience to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures. I hope I can show initiative and that I have the courage and ability to adapt to new environments and circumstances, not afraid to move out of my comfort zone and take on new challenges through living and working in a foreign country.
As an English teacher in Korea, I can experience the real country of Korea as a member of the local community rather than as a tourist. Working in Korea will enable me to truly immerse myself in this wonderful foreign culture by interacting closely with students, parents, teachers and common citizens be it at school or in the local markets. I hope this opportunity will allow me to meet and establish friendships with people from all walks of life and delve into a culture in the nation where I will teach, including local language, exquisite cuisine and long-established customs. Korea is a country where modern culture is still strengthened with traditional bonds. Here, I hope to experience an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live abroad and truly immerse myself in a foreign culture. As Korea becomes one of the leading countries in many aspects including science and technology, it has become the golden age for cultural diversity and exchange, communication and education for the younger generations. As a student in Korea, as well as being a teacher in Korea, one can experience the multi-faceted cultural phenomenon present, from traditional etiquettes to contemporary trends. I have always marvelled at how well Korean children adapt to traditions, making them polite and well mannered through time-honoured customs. From school outings to making Kimchi, I hope to be able to not only take part in such a great culture, but also hopefully, be able to contribute what I can in knowledge and experience to this grand society.
