I hold two bachelor degrees, one in Theatre Studies, for which I was placed on the Dean's List, and my second degree is in Cultural Anthropology, for which I graduated with High Honours. I have a TEFL certificate worth 100 hours; I completed this certification online while teaching in Korea. I also have my CELTA certificate; I completed this certification in Halifax, Canada, at the International Institute of Language.
I have worked as a teaching assistant for Dalhousie University for two years. The bulk of my responsibility as a T.A. was assisting students and marking essays. I taught English in Korea for 6 years, both in public schools full time and I also taught part time in private schools. The first two years I taught at Yurak Girls Middle School in Busan, and the subsequent 4 years I taught at two different elementary schools in Gimhae. I just finished teaching at a local ESL school here in Halifax, Canada, East Coast School of Languages. I taught full time for one year at this school. I purposely asked to be placed on the sub list for the new year (2013) so that I could devote all of my time to finding a great teaching contract in Korea. |

As an experienced ESL Instructor, I am always looking for new and interesting teaching contracts, both in my home country of Canada, and abroad. As you will see from my enclosed resume, I have a diverse educational background and a great deal of teaching experience. Studying cultural and linguistic anthropology has enabled me to understand and embrace new cultures, especially within the multilingual and unilingual classroom. Having a deeper understanding and appreciation of different cultures has helped me to build great classroom management skills. In other words, I am extremely open to the individual needs of each student. I understand that good teaching goes far beyond delivering information; being responsive to students¡¯ personal concerns and struggles plays a large part in my approach as an educator. I consistently maintain a kind and professional demeanor when dealing with students, both inside and outside of the classroom. Beyond that, I possess excellent organizational and administrative skills. |
