°ÀÇ°æÇè Since 2007, I have completed 3 one-year contracts in Seoul, gaining ESL teaching experience in a range of different forms. My most recent position was at "Parang Kids Kindergarten" (Jayang-dong Gwangjin-gu) where I taught students aged 5-7 in the morning and elementary aged students in the afternoon. As well as teaching, this job required lots of preparation, lesson planning and designing materials plus learning children's songs on the guitar and researching recipes for cooking classes. For my second year, I worked at a conventional hagwon "DOCS Language Academy" (Jungwha-dong, Jungnang-gu) teaching elementary students in the afternoon and evening. Although my the final 3 months of this job also included morning kindergarten classes, I was mainly responsible for preparing students for their TOEFL exams. My first job in Korea was working at Seoul English Village (Pungnap-dong, Songpa-gu) providing "edu-tainment" classes to elementary-aged students based on themed "situation rooms". I found this to be a good introduction to English language teaching because it gave me plenty of opportunities to learn and develop my teaching skills while practicing on a constantly changing range of ages and abilities. I have recently become CELTA-qualified and I am eager to put my advanced skills to practice.
Ä¿¹ö·¹ÅÍ/À̷¼ "The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows." - Sydney J. Harris I hope to be considered for one of your full-time English language teaching positions in or around Seoul. I am ready to start as soon as possible. It is my view that in order for students to learn languages effectively, they must be provided with the tools and inclination they need to learn beyond the classroom as well as during lesson time. I believe that teachers should be mindful of the different learning styles of students and wherever possible, design lessons and activities that meet their specific needs. As well as focusing on the primary building blocks of language learning (reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar) I also believe in cultivating softer skills such as fluency, accuracy, social skills and creativity to help students gain confidence in their abilities to communicate and comprehend. I particularly enjoy teaching English because it gives me the opportunity to use my creative and performance skills. As a Drama and Fine Art graduate, I have seen that students of all ages are most receptive to classes that are fun and engaging as well as relevant and informative. Therefore I am constantly striving to make my classes as interesting and stimulating as possible by integrating educational games and activities and opportunities to practise using focus language. Measures such as these ensure that the quality of education I provide is of the highest possible standard. I believe that organization, preparation and adaptability are the key attributes of a good English language teacher, along with a friendly and approachable demeanor and an ongoing regime of professional development and self-improvement. It is my intention to broaden my teaching skills in support of an eventual DELTA application, after which I hope to become a Director of Studies.
