To Whom it May Concern,
My name is Glen Riley and I'm a Canadian citizen interested in pursuing a position teaching adults in South Korea. Please allow me to introduce myself.
My educational background includes graduating from the University of Manitoba (Winnipeg) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2000; A completed certificate in Project Management at Mount Royal College (Calgary) in 2003; A completed CELTA certification (Vancouver) in 2009.
My teaching experience includes three years teaching children at two prestigious English academies in Daegu, between 2003 to 2007. Classes consisted of students age 10-15. Emphasis was on speaking, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. In 2007, I taught adult classes at YBM ELS in Daegu. The main classes offered were conversation, 'Hot Topics', and one-to-one tutorials. Recently, I taught at PLI, one of the largest ESL institutes in Vancouver, Canada. I taught a wide range of courses including Advanced Grammar, Reading and Vocabulary Strategies, Core Skills, and one-to-one tutorials. In addition to classroom instruction, I have experience creating level appropriate materials and activities.
My approach to teaching includes providing students with a supportive learning environment, helping them achieve communicative competence through meaningful activities, and facilitating their success in an English academic environment. I provide students with a friendly, supportive learning environment in order to reduce their learning anxieties.
I am very hardworking and apply my skills to create entertaining and imaginative lesson plans. I also maintain a practical, down-to-earth atmosphere in the classroom so that students remain at ease and feel secure in their attempts to improve. This approach to teaching has always proved to be effective in generating positive communicative interactions in my classroom.
Prior to arriving in South Korea, I had both my degree and criminal background check notarized and stamped by the Korean embassy in Vancouver, Canada.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to speaking with you in the near future. |
