I became interested in teaching during my years in England where I was fortunate to work with several children in their homes, while I was their nanny.  I enjoyed providing two or three children of various


ages and abilities, fun and educational programmes on a daily basis.  After returning to New Zealand I set off at the beginning of the following school year, to learn how to be a teacher.  While studying at Wellington College of Education (Victoria University), I gained a greater understanding of the philosophy of teaching and learnt about many different teaching techniques.  I was given several opportunities during my training to put this theory into practice in classes where I was constantly observed and reviewed.  I came out the College with my degree, and a thirst for educating children, unfortunately I was unable to attain fulltime teaching work in my own country, so I set off for much needed experience in the classrooms of South Korea.  Here I have been able to use my training to provide interesting and educational lessons for my students as well as try to meet each students needs and learning styles.  While teaching adults I found it very beneficial to receive direct feedback so that I could adapt my teaching style to best suit my students needs.  This knowledge of what students want, and need has helped me greatly when confronted with shy five year old Korean children on their first day of school with me.
