As an assistant tennis instructor, I was responsible for instructing children 5 to 16 years of age in small groups to teach them new skills. I assisted in running the day to day operation of the summer camp, which involved monitoring, instructing and participating in drills along with providing continual feedback to both the children and head instructor. I was responsible for providing the head instructor with feedback for the written evaluation each child received at the end of the camp. I assisted in providing feedback to the parents of the children about their child's overall experience and progress. The experience was challenging, however it taught me the importance of patience, assertiveness, diplomacy and compassion. I learned that each child needs their own particular needs addressed, and that requires encouragement, personal attention and empathy.

Dear Director,
My name is John McKenna. I am a 30 year old Canadian university graduate, and a TESOL certified English teacher. I obtained my degree in Political Science at Carleton University in Ottawa, while I was accredited in TESOL through the United TESOL International College of Teacher Training in Ottawa. I also spent two years studying Business Administration at a community college in Ottawa, Algonquin College.
Teaching English is a career path that I feel is well suited to my interests and capabilities. I enjoy working with people and have always felt compelled to share whatever knowledge I have gained with others. I feel quite strongly that teaching is not only a rewarding profession, but one that carries great responsibility. I feel my demeanor and mindset will enable me to excel in a structured classroom setting.
I speak French in addition to my native tongue, along with some Spanish and Italian. Through the process of learning all three languages, I have come to appreciate the patience and motivation it takes to learn a new language. I understand quite well from a student¡¯s point of view, the positive atmosphere needed to learn. I enjoy the challenge of taking on leadership roles, as well as cooperating with others in groups. The opportunity to present in front of classmates and an interested audience has always been a great interest of mine.
I have had the pleasure of working as an ESL teacher teaching adults in Dubai and I enjoyed that experience immensely. I have spent the past two years teaching English at a language academy and a public elementary school in Seoul, which has provided me with valuable classroom experience. I spent six summers working with the Canadian Government as an administrative assistant. That time taught me the importance of communication, public relations, time management, commitment and proper work ethic. I was also a baseball umpire and a cashier at a local drug store. Both experiences taught me the importance of assertiveness, diplomacy, mutual respect, empathy and honesty.
I have always had a passion for traveling and experiencing other cultures, and I see teaching English as a great way to do both. The rich culture and history of Asia present a unique opportunity to immerse myself in a vastly different environment and thus profoundly expand my understanding of other cultures. My experiences in Dubai and Seoul have already broadened my appreciation of other cultures and will definitely aid me in adapting to my surroundings once again.
This brief introduction highlights the important characteristics that I feel I have acquired through my work and life experience. I am a dedicated and hard working employee willing to prove myself in any situation. I get satisfaction from knowing that those I work with are happy with my commitment. I look forward to an opportunity to discuss future job prospects with you at your earliest convenience.
Sincerely,
John McKenna.
