Education: I to I TEFL Course

        Liverpool Hope University

                     St. Chad¡¯s Sixth Form

                     St. Chad¡¯s Catholic High School

Work Experience:

Employer: Brown English School

Position: English Teacher

Date: April '10 – Present

Main Duties and Responsibilities: My main role is to focus on vocabulary and pronunciation through teaching classes in phonics, reading, writing, listening, drama, music, art, maths, science and computers. I teach children aged five to eleven in classes that range in size from two students up to twelve.

Ä¿¹ö·¹ÅÍ/À̷¼ To whom it may concern, My name is Louise Kinsella and I would like to apply for an ESL teaching position at in South Korea. I first became aware of the opportunities to teach English in South Korea through a friend who currently works as an ESL teacher in Seoul and after much research into the area I found the education system and the Korean approach to education to be most impressive. I am aware that the education system in South Korea is of a very high standard and would thus endeavour to maintain high standards of teaching and high levels of achievement should I be given the opportunity to teach here. I have a 2:1 BA (hons) degree in History and Sociology from Liverpool Hope University and am currently completing a TEFL qualification course, which includes a unit on teaching young learners, which will be completed by February of this year. I will be returning to university in the next six years to complete my PGCE teacher training in order to teach History in a secondary school in England. I believe that the opportunity to teach English in Seoul would be invaluable to me as not only will it help me to develop further the skills needed to teach effectively and to ensure that the children are being given the best possible education, but I will also be able to experience and learn about a whole new culture that is so different to anything I have ever experienced before. In preparation for my career as a teacher, I have worked as a volunteer with children's organisations and schools for the past five years, which has been beneficial to me in terms of helping me towards my chosen career, but also hugely enjoyable in terms of working in such interesting, out going and exciting environments with the children. Between October 2003 and January 2004 I worked as a volunteer classroom assistant, working in Holy Spirit Primary School with children aged four to eight, and in St. Chad's Catholic High School working with children aged thirteen to fifteen. My main duties in Holy Spirit were to assist the teacher with the general day to day running of the class, from P.E. lessons to helping the children with their reading. In St. Chad's I worked with specific students who were struggling with their reading, writing and comprehension during History and English lessons. Since August of this year I have been working as a volunteer at local libraries, working at children's activity days, where I assist with arts and crafts, reading, drama and face-painting. I also help to organise and oversee two young people's groups, Young Voices and Headspace, who have an input in the facilities provided by the libraries for young people. I have also trained as a Volunteer Reading Help, where my role is to help children aged four to eleven in primary education with their reading. Although the primary focus of this role is to help children with their reading, the broader aim is to encourage and develop confidence in the classroom. The approach of the VRH organisation has been proven to be hugely effective in increasing children's attainment not just in English but in all aspects of their education. I am a focused, friendly and optimistic individual and a dedicated, conscientious and loyal employee. I understand the pressures and responsibilities that come with the role of a teacher and would thus ensure that I gave the position the dedication and hard work that it requires and deserves. I look forward to the opportunity to learn and develop as a teacher in Seoul. I am available for interview at your convenience and look forward to hearing from you to discuss the possibility of my future as a teacher in Seoul, South Korea.
