I have been tutoring individuals, mostly privately, since 2005. I have tutored in school subjects, such as Mathematics and the Sciences, and I have also tutored Korean exchange students in English. From June to December of 2009, I tutored through an organization called Club Zed. During this time, I tutored students from grades 2-4 in reading, writing, and other school subjects. I have been a summer camp teacher and counselor since 2005, as well. Using a pre-determined lesson plans, I taught elementary age students about the Bible and about faith. I have also been a Sunday school teacher at my church since September 2009. I teach grade 3 students following a standard curriculum for our Sunday school. This involves reading a passage and then asking the students questions and explaining the passage to them. The Sunday school setting is very much like a classroom setting, and I had 12 students in my class. I also lead the Sunday school students in song and dance.

I am a recent graduate from the Human Biology specialist program, Genes, Genetics, and Biotechnology, at the University of Toronto. Throughout my high school and university careers, I have had numerous experiences teaching English to exchange students from various countries. Being fluent in both spoken and written Korean, I have had highly successful experiences teaching English to students from Korea. I am currently teaching Sunday school at St. Anne’s Korean Catholic church, where I teach elementary age students in both English and Korean. I have also been teaching and counselling at a Christian summer camp since 2005.

I believe that I possess the qualities that you are looking for in an ideal candidate for this position.  I am a hard-working, goal-oriented individual who pays a great deal of attention to detail and precision. I am also a diligent and persevering individual who works well both independently and in group settings. Furthermore, I adapt quickly to new situations and I am always eager to learn what is new or unknown to me. However, the most important quality I have is that I am passionate about teaching and about students. My educational philosophy is that the students always come first, and I always do all that I can to make sure I put my students first. I strive to make a positive difference in my students’ lives.
