EDUCATION
I am a recent graduate of United TESOL International College of Teacher Training¡¯s TESOL certification program in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The program consisted of 40 in-class hours, and 60 hours outside the classroom spent on English grammar and a teaching specialization for business English.
I have also graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Psychology.
EXPERIENCE
TESOL Teacher, Korea Global Vision Hagwon
http://www.kgvschool.com/
At this hagwon I was responsible for teaching small classes of four to eight students. The children ranged in ages from seven to fourteen years old. A typical class included a ten-fifteen minute pronunciation practice at the beginning of class to get the children to properly say the words they had learned from a Korean teacher. This was followed by conversation practice using a textbook. Five to ten minutes at the end of class was used to play a game if the children were well-behaved and had completed their homework.
Activity Facilitator, Ottawa Math Olympics
As an activity facilitator I was responsible for distributing and explaining a math-based activity to a classroom of children from various elementary schools across Ottawa. I had to clearly communicate the objectives of the activity so that it could be understood by children, as well as answer any questions they may have had. Upon completion of the activity I was responsible for grading the assignment and ending the class. The experience improved my classroom management skills immensely.
Sales Associate, Sportchek
As Canada¡¯s largest sporting goods retailer, Sportchek offers entry level products for many different sports. As a result I would have to often have to educate customers on the features and differences of products they had no prior experience using. This social aspect of the job helped me improve my interpersonal skills. Also, because of my experience with the retailer I was also given the task of training some of the newer employees.
Data Entrant/Statistician, Federation of Canadian Archers Incorporated
While working for the Federation of Canadian Archers I was responsible with creating an electronic database of archery scores from twenty years ago till present. Upon the completion of the database I looked for trends between an archer¡¯s scores and their age. The job provided the opportunity to act independently, and required a great degree of organization. I also had to take the initiative in many of my tasks since the job was very open-ended.
Customer Service Representative, Subway
As an employee at this fast-food restaurant I was responsible for providing efficient and accurate service to the store¡¯s customers. This was accomplished in a team-setting, as well as individually since I was often required to close the store by myself. Overtime I was also given the task of training the new hires because of my job experience. |
