To Whom It May Concern:
I am delighted to be called upon as a reference for Alan. I first became acquainted with Alan in 2009, when I interviewed him for a position at Soong-sil English Town Language School. Alan worked under my supervision and I highly recommend him as a candidate for a position with your company.
Our school teaches English in an English-only environment to Korean elementary and middle school students. Our program targets elementary school students who seek an authentic English classroom learning environment and students returning from overseas or preparing to travel and study overseas. We also target middle school students who are preparing to enter English-language high schools. The curriculum places equal emphasis on all essential areas of English language learning. We teach phonics, sight words, comprehension, story book reading, listening, and writing.
Alan has been employed as a full time teacher of English to elementary and middle school students. He accepted this responsibility ambitiously and set forth on a path to success. I know that the only way he was able to accomplish this successfully was through the relationships he built with his students and co-teachers.
He saw his students both as classes and as individuals. Anyone can teach a good student, but Alan took it upon himself to reach every student in his class. He spent many hours with individual students working on reading and writing strategies on his own time to help less capable students. He refused to give up on any student. His ability to connect with his students and his talent at teaching simple concepts, as well as more advanced topics, are commendable.
He wrote very professional plans. He was always willing to adjust any parts of his lessons he thought could be improved. Alan also created handouts for use in our program. On a practical level, all the papers, quizzes, and tests Alan assigned to the students were immediately graded and returned to the students. Alan¡¯s classroom management style showed his maturity in dealing with the students, and, as a result, commanded real respect from the students.
He is extremely organized, a creative problem-solver, reliable, and computer literate. Alan can work independently and is able to follow through to ensure that the job gets done. He accomplishes these tasks with great initiative and with a very positive attitude.
I recommend Alan to you without reservation. Wherever he decides to accept a teaching position, I know that he will do an outstanding job and become an asset to the school fortunate enough to receive his application for employment. If you have any further questions with regard to his background or qualifications, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Katrina A. Kerstetter
