I graduated Drake University in May 2010. At Drake I earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in History. After graduating the Iowa Board of Education approved my teachers license.
I have had many different opportunities to gain teaching experience. I spent my final semester student teaching seventh grade social studies and completed 100 practicum observation hours over my four years of college. When I studied abroad my junior year in Prague, Czech Republic I tutored English at a local high school and volunteered at an after school English-immersion program. |

Teaching has always been a passion of mine. After graduating from Drake University with degrees in education and history, I thought of ways to combine both of my majors meaningfully and organically. Teaching abroad is the perfect opportunity for me to put what I have learned to use as well as continue to grow and learn about the world around me. Because I have my social studies endorsement I will someday be teaching history in the US. Going to another country and learning about different ways of life is the best way for me to teach future students about other cultures.
I chose to look at teaching in South Korea because it is such an important part of the world, yet somehow overshadowed by vocal neighbors such as China and Japan to many in the Western world. The unique history and traditions of the country was enough to lure me into seeking employment in Korea.
I have ample experience in the education field. Through my time at Drake University I spent a semester student teaching where I worked 40 hours a week, leading a class and creating and implementing lesson plans. I also completed 100 hours of practicum observations where I observed many different types of classrooms. Drake also allowed me to study abroad in Prague, which prepared me to deal with the culture shock that initially comes with living in a new country.
