Dear Sir or Madame,
After much research and investigation, I have decided to pursue a career teaching English in South Korea. I am currently finishing my second year of teaching at a public middle school in North Carolina. I have had many challenges and yet my students have experienced success in the classroom. Despite these achievements, the vision I have for my career does not follow the same course as many of my colleagues. In several of the schools I have worked or visited, the mission statement often included the theme of a global classroom. It is true that due to advances in technology it seems humanity is closer than ever in the past, however personal experiences will always trump virtual reality.
These past two years have provided me with a wide range of education skills and tools. Classroom management is not really taught in university courses, and I do not believe that could even be possible. Only when a person steps into a classroom and takes charge do they really learn how to run a class effectively. Using a combination of positive behavior support and an adequate application of consequences, I will be able to handle a wide variety of situations. During the time at my current school I also differentiated instruction to suit the various strengths of my students. This provides the correct level of difficulty for individuals or groups, and insures all students will be engaged.
I also look forward to spending time in another country and culture. In the past, I have traveled to other countries, and spent different amounts of time exploring and learning. The longest trip I have taken was 6 weeks in Costa Rica while I was studying Spanish. It was a breakthrough for my personal development as I stayed with a family that did not speak any English. If I had never taken that trip I would not be considering this year long stay. I feel mentally strong and competent to not only finish my contract, but to do so with excellence.
