I am a 23 year old English Student interested in the possibility of teaching abroad. There are several reasons for this. First, I have a long standing interest in teaching, with knowledge acquired from my mother who is a primary school teacher, as to the positive social benefits the job can provide. Second, I have first hand experience of the enjoyment teaching can provide, having undertaken two volunteer teaching projects in South America, in 2006 and 2007 respectively, after graduating from my undergraduate studies. In particular I found TEFL richly rewarding for the ability to work across cultures, and experience the enthusiasm of foreign learners of English. To this end, having completed these placements, I then studied for a trinity-certified TEFL award, in order to pursue the idea at a later date. I have just completed a Masters degree at Loughborough University in England, after which I would like to be a secondary school teacher in England. As a transitional step towards this, I want to see how I can cope in a teaching environment for an extended period. The possibility of exploring Korean culture is of great importance to me in this; I have never visited the country, but have researched it extensively, and am sure the experience of living there will be as enjoyable and positive as the teaching. |
