Dear Hiring Manager,
Having spent the last year in Korea as an English instructor, I feel as if I have proven my mettle as an effective and engaging teacher. Also, my eagerness to return for yet another year is proof of a certain level of harmony and comfort achieved with Korean culture and society, as well as a revealing indication that I find this sort of work to be both suitable to my propensities and an engaging challenge.
Over the past year, I have proudly built a rapport and trust with my fellow coworkers, my supervisors, and most importantly, with my students. Children do not always readily surrender their respect to a teacher or immediately accept his or her authority. I had to earn that respect and authority through creating engaging lessons in which children can sense their progress; having indefinite patience for students that may have trouble grasping certain concepts; and by revealing a humor to which students can respond, which breaks down barriers of trust that may inhibit a student’s investment of interest. This last point can be hard to pull off without coming off as too soft, so I have had to strike a fine balance with discipline as well, making sure the fun never gets so out of hand that it detracts from the learning experience.
Should I be selected to work at your establishment, I would be happy to bring my accumulated knowledge to a fresh environment. Though after only a year I realize that I can hardly call myself an expert, therefore I would gladly integrate into my teaching paradigm any revealed wisdom that comes with joining a new team of workers and administrators. I am humbled by the realization that I too am still learning, and I would be further humbled by the opportunity to work for your organization.
