Ä¿¹ö·¹ÅÍ/À̷¼ Greetings,

My name is Chris Backe. I have called Korea my home since March 2008, and am looking forward to spending many more years in Korea.

I graduated from Berea College (Berea, Kentucky, USA) in 2004 with a Business Administration degree and a Marketing emphasis. After graduating university, I worked in a variety of business-oriented positions – Accountant with the Kentucky State Government, salesperson for a mattress store, and so on. Before coming to Korea, I taught computer classes to adults at the local library. Since arriving in Korea in March 2008, I have taught English to every age, from children in kindergarten to adults receiving their pension.

I was recently given notice by BCM that I'll be laid off in mid-February because BCM lost the contract with the school I had been working at. There were no complains with my teaching ability. They will provide a good reference and visa release letter to facilitate paperwork.

My emphasis when teaching English is genuine learning. Instead of sitting in a class and reading a book, I encourage my students to come up with answers to open-ended questions. I aim for comprehension and understanding, rather than simply passing the test; of course, there are times when focusing on the test is a better way to achieve success.

My teaching work hasn¡¯t been the only thing I¡¯ve done during my time in Korea. I have kept a blog about life in Korea since arriving  with over 700 posts to date. On that blog, I've found or created resources to assist my fellow expatriates, and answered many of their questions in my blog. I¡¯ve made it a point to travel to, photograph, and write about at least one new place a week. My articles are referred to by other bloggers in the Korean blogosphere often, and several of my articles have been published in The East, a British newspaper about Asia, along with 10 Magazine and the Groove here in Korea. I have made it a point to learn as much as possible about Seoul and Korea, and have actively participated in the expatriate community here in Korea.

In the last year, I have also written a 300-page book entitled ¡°The Homeschoolers Guide to College¡±, a book about assisting American homeschoolers in making the transition to an American university. My book was published at the very end of 2008, and is available on amazon.com.

In short, I know much about Korea and Korean culture; I¡¯m an accomplished writer, editor, and photographer; and I have a variety of business experience from sales to marketing to management. While not especially relevant to the position, I trust it shows my ambition, energy level, and a desire to continually improve myself. I hope to hear from you soon about this position, or other positions you might have available. Thanks for your time --

Sincerely,

Chris Backe
