Dear Sir or Madam:

Having recently graduated with an Honours BA from the University of Toronto, and having completed the TESL/TESOL certification this October from Oxford Seminars, I am now eager to begin my teaching career.  I am writing to apply for a position as a Native Speaking English Teacher in Seoul, South Korea.

In order to be an effective teacher in the classroom, it is important to maintain a positive learning environment so second language learners are encouraged to take interest in what they are learning. As a teacher, it is my goal to create a dynamic and supportive environment which will not only appeal to all student learning-styles but also help facilitate individual study.  I am committed to helping students achieve success in all their endeavours.

Throughout my own high school and university experience, I have actively pursued the field of teaching or activities related to it.  In high school, I was the co-Editor-in-Chief of our student-run school newspaper. Through that experience, I learned how to adapt quickly to new challenges and cultivated vital leadership, time management, and organization skills. In addition to that, I was also involved in P.A.G.E.S., a peer mentoring program which assisted the English students in the school. As a peer mentor, I learned how to be patient as well as how to support others more effectively. I have also tutored children ages of 12 and 13 for the subject of English.  From that experience, I learned how to create lessons which would appeal to my students so they are genuinely interested in learning. I believe that those skills along with my optimistic outlook will enable me to succeed in teaching overseas.

The enclosed resume and other documents provide an outline of my education and experience, but do not convey adequately my enthusiasm for teaching. I appreciate your consideration of my application, and I hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you for your time.
Respectfully yours,

Arlene May Martinez
