Ä¿¹ö·¹ÅÍ/À̷¼ Dear Madame or Sir:

One cannot ever be sure why a person chooses certain life path over others. As a teenager, I have always been interested in various historical episodes of persecution, mainly focused on my own country Korea¡¯s distress. It was the rather abrupt relocation of my family to the United States, however, that turned my attention towards other countries as well.

One catalytic incident occurred during the summer of 2005, when I was watching a documentary with my best friend. The documentary featured a South African teenager who lost her mother to AIDS, at which point Chantal broke into tears. Chantal, a native of Rwanda who lost her father on April 17th, 1994, also had a young aunt who had died of AIDS, which was acquired after a series of brutal rapes during the Rwandan genocide. For the last five years, ever since I first befriended her, I had been wondering whether the rather distant historical event at a distant place—Rwandan Genocide—had anything to do with her—if so, to what extent. The distinction between such concepts as ¡®us¡¯ and/or ¡®them¡¯ became a blur, which meant that everything that is happening around the world is becoming more or less my problem, something that required our attention.

After graduating from Boston University, where I studied Film & Television at its College of Communication, I worked on various freelance projects, eventually securing employment at WHDH-TV¡¯s Creative Services department.  Though I learned a great deal about news-making and world events through my job, I also felt the need to further my knowledge in international affairs.

My broad interests took me to various places of the world and molded me into my current self. I am always eager to learn about almost everything in life, whether it is something academic, or just about another individual.

I think I possess credentials that are highly compatible with this position, since I think studying a language surpasses the mere issue of technicalities concerning grammar, etc. During my student years, I helped out various students correcting their essays. Ever since coming back to Korea after having resided for 11 years in the United States and the United Kingdom, I have been tutoring and teaching adult English conversation class.

Thank you very much for taking the time to consider my qualifications and I hope to hear from you soon.

Best regards,

Jooyea Lee
