Hello,
I am writing this to show my interest in teaching English in Korea. As a Korean-Canadian, I feel compelling to share my experience and knowledge built up here in Canada for 15 years with ESL students who need to know how to gain confidence and fluency in English. As my personal interest is art, philosophy, and psychology, I can assure that I have capability to create not only professional but also friendly learning environment for students who may be easily intimidated with the language.
As an English translation/interpretation teacher and a program coordinator at the NCA College of Applied Languages from 2007 to 2008, I taught ESL classes on intermediate level for international students and administered a community network service for them aiming to provide employment and housing services. I also organized English conversation workshops and employment services that help international students to integrate into Canadian life better. I managed to build up well-organized curriculum for more effective results in students’ English proficiency, using serious materials like Time Magazine and The Global and Mail newspaper. In doing so, I provided them a better method of studying English and Western culture and of acknowledging social issues and global affairs.
My recent experience in owning a gallery-like cafe has been truly unique. I was involved in the business operation from the outset creating the café’s organic menu and website, managing financial administration, marketing and promotion. I planned and organized the store’s various promotional events such as art exhibitions and holiday parties, and fund- raising events such as green awareness activities. I have developed strong management and problem solving skill through the operation and promotion of the independent business.
Yet I cannot deny that I love teaching. That is why I decide to pursue teaching career over business. I have strong knowledge about Canadian educational system and culture, excellent problem solving skill, administrative and teaching experience, to equip me to make a significant contribution as a teacher.
