Dear Hiring Manager:
I am interested in teaching English in Seoul, and I found out about this position on the Craigslist website. Because of my valuable experiences and my desire to live in Seoul, I believe I am an excellent candidate for the position.
As an English teacher, the candidate must be a native English speaker, should have experience in teaching, have excellent English grammar and writing skills, and have a college degree. I graduated from Virginia Tech located in Blacksburg, VA, United States of America, with a dual degree in Entrepreneurship Business Management and Finance.
Because of my various experiences, I believe that I am an excellent match for the position. Throughout high school, I have taken Honors courses in English; therefore, my grammar and writing skills are above-average. Furthermore, I have tutored various children at my church and at the KUMON Reading and Math Learning Center during high school. I was also an instructor in the Wilderness School Program at my local church for two summers. The Wilderness School Program is a short-term Hakwon program held in the summer, and it provides courses in math, reading, and other areas related to Christianity. At Virginia Tech, I have served as a bible study leader at a Christian student organization, Cornerstone. I have also volunteered at a local elementary school to teach for the ESL program. In addition to leading in Cornerstone and ESL volunteer, I have taken leadership roles in many class projects by delegating assignments, and ensuring projects are completed properly and timely. Due to my strong knowledge in various business courses, I have also tutored friends in similar areas throughout my college years. Currently, in my Business Writing course at Virginia Tech, I am volunteering my services to the YMCA at Virginia Tech as a professional writer. Since my freshman year at Virginia Tech, I have gained valuable leadership, organizational, writing, and communication skills, because of my initiative and my involvement with various organizations. Therefore, I believe I can be a valuable team member for the school due to my acquired skills and attributes from my experiences.
I am a team player and very flexible. Also, I have a lot of patience, and I enjoy working with others. I was born in New York, and raised in Virginia. Because I was raised in Virginia, I have the standard, English speaking accent. Also I am Korean, and due to my upbringing in America, I have never truly experienced Korea. Therefore, I truly want to teach in Korea because it will give me a valuable working and international experience before I began my career as a Finance professional. I hope to not only gain the working and international experience, but also develop my Korean language skills and a strong, diverse social network. I believe that my passion to work abroad in Korea for one to three years will motivate me to work hard for your school.
I look forward to discussing how my education and experience can assist the school.
Sincerely,
Brian Yi
