I gained TESOL certification in April of this year through The International TEFL Corporation. The Course consisted of 120 hours and included 10 hours of observed teaching. In my Grammar exam I achieved a mark of 100% and my observed teaching was graded "Excellent". I also have a BSc in Sports Development with Coaching (Grade - 2:1) which I completed in 2005.
Prior to gaining TESOL Certification I spent 18 months working as a PE Teacher at a Special Education School in London, which along with extensive coaching roles in a variety of sports, has given me very valuable experience which I believe has contributed to making me a better English teacher.
My prior English teaching experience consists of 3 months working for a High School in the Xinjiang Region of China. I had signed a 6 month contract, however decided to leave prior to its completion due to safety issues over recent terorist attacks in the region. The School were pleased with my teaching and disappointed about my request to leave, however appreciated that there were special circumstances and agreed to release me from my contract.
I also spent 6 months as a volunteer in an orphanage in Northern Peru in 2007. I had a number of roles which included teaching basic Maths and English. It was this experience which inspired me to become an English teacher. |
