Dear Public School,
My purpose for applying to a public school is because I strive to help young students achieve their goals. I am particularly interested in teaching for a public school and I have a strong interest in helping ESL students. In addition, I have a passion for Korea, and its culture. I am ready to contribute to your school. I always strive to become a better teacher. True teachers never stop learning.
I graduated from Michigan State University one of the most diversified colleges in America naturally exposing me to diverse ways of thinking. These experiences have been very valuable to me and helped me discover my passion. My passion is international relations focusing on developing countries in relation with the U.S. For the long run, I am striving to become a Foreign Service Officer in Korea contributing with social, environmental, and economic welfare by the means of diplomatic support of the U.S government. By Dec 31st I will have worked in South Korea for one year, and I would like to be apart of a public school in March. June 2008, I volunteered with The Capital Area Literacy Coalition helping children and adults learn to read, write and speak English with an ultimate goal of helping individuals achieve self-sufficiency. I was involved in refugee camps though the Lansing, Michigan area.
Not only do I hold the necessary drive, passion and determination, but also educational experience to succeed as your ESL Teacher. I have completed advanced course work in Linguistics, Pedagogical English grammar, and well as academic courses requiring advanced levels of writing skill. Through my working experience and educational background I have naturally learned to embrace adaptability, and further developed many skills including, leadership skills, cross-cultural communication skills, team dynamics, analytic skills, and writing skills. Upon request, I can elaborate more on experiences in which I have had to apply these skills. A short example, in my senior capstone debate course involving intense teamwork with an assigned group of individuals, I chose to take initiative pursuing a leadership role helping my team indentify their roles within the group, motivating team members, keeping updated with member’s progress, and overall promoting collaboration among my team. In result we performed very well.
Through out college and now as a recent graduate from Michigan State University, I have come in line with my career path, and simply put- to pursue my passion to help people. Once I learned of this opportunity to work with a public school I believe it is a door of density upon me, and now I am here to turn the handle.
