Hello, my name is William Bogner. I have a strong interest in pursuing a teaching career. I have experience with elementary education teaching multiple subjects, as well as TEFL/TESOL training at all developmental levels. I also have experience with educational activities outside of the traditional classroom. I have a diverse background with much to offer. My ultimate goal is to be of service to all of my students, and provide the best education possible.
My first classroom experience was working for an after school program for “at risk” elementary students. My position included helping students with homework and coaching them in a variety of physical activities. I did this for one year, until I decided to pursue a California Teaching Credential and a Masters in Elementary Education. My education was focused on learning to teach multiple subjects at the elementary level.
I have student teaching experience at the second and fifth grade levels. I have experience working in a dual immersion classroom, where I was a student teacher working and learning under a master teacher. The students were taught English and Spanish throughout the day. My focus was teaching students English, while team teaching with a Spanish teacher. My second student teaching placement was in a traditional public elementary school, where I taught multiple subjects at the fifth grade level.
Recently, I decided to pursue a career teaching English as a foreign language. I completed an intensive four week course, which provided first hand experience instructing L2 students of all levels and ages. I learned various new teaching strategies specifically used for the TEFL classroom, such as the Army Method, Constructivist Approach, Audio-Lingual Method, The Natural Approach, Total Physical Response, Scaffolding, and the Affective Filter Approach, just to name a few.
In conclusion, my personal philosophy of education is based on three main factors. First, being aware of students’ learning strategies, methods, and needs. Second, using the Communicative Approach for teaching students. Third, conveying my passion for teaching to my students. With patience, compassion, and empathy I wish to serve all of my students needs by decreasing affective filters in the learning process.
