Ä¿¹ö·¹ÅÍ/À̷¼ Dear Teaching Director:

I am applying for your teaching position because I am eager to put my passion for teaching to work for you in Korea. It has been my dream to teach in Asia for three years. I have described my teaching background and experiences in the following paragraphs so you can get to know me better.

My interest in teaching and learning languages began with a simple road trip to Montréal, Canada nearly ten years ago. This was my first time being in a non-English speaking environment. Since that time my curiosity with language evolved into a full-blown passion. I later pursued a French minor, studied abroad, visited fifteen countries and approximately three years ago I began studying Korean and Japanese to experience learning Eastern languages. I began my studies by participating in one-on-one language exchange with Korean and Japanese students of English in nearby New York City. It was during this time that I fell in love with Korean culture and discovered teaching my native language to be just as rewarding to me as learning another language. I felt an overwhelming sense of fulfillment when I saw my tutoring efforts improve my partner¡¯s English abilities. From this point on, I knew that teaching English would be my destiny.

Because I knew teaching would be part of my future, I went on to earn my CELTA certification in New York City. This gave me the experience and knowledge to successfully conduct classroom-size teaching. During this time, I coordinated lesson plans for students of numerous backgrounds and various English levels. My background in art and design has also been beneficial in my expanding my natural creativity that is an asset in the classroom. I have a great sense of humor that keeps students engaged and I respect the individuality and needs of each student. I also have extensive travel experience and never felt uncomfortable in a foreign environment.

Finally, I would like to elaborate on my biggest strength and deciding factor on wanting to live and teach in Korea. This strength is my ability to bond with the Korean people. Unfortunately, I don¡¯t have an explanation for this unique phenomenon. Perhaps it is a shared personality trait. My mother jokes it is because a Korean doctor delivered me as an infant. Regardless the reason, I do know that I have made many great Korean friends and I have found the Korean children to be delightful and certainly not camera shy when I visited Korea in May. I hope to continue to make strong bonds and friendships in Korea. I believe this is essential in gaining student¡¯s trust and necessary to conduct successful, productive classes.

I am convinced that I have what it takes to be an outstanding English teacher at your school. I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your consideration of my application in this fantastic employment opportunity.
