I think I am right for this job because of my educational background and previous teaching experience. I am a Bachelor of Science Psychology student who has a wealth of knowledge on children’s development, cognition, teaching practices and behaviour. My Honours degree will be completed in December 2009. In December 2008 to April 2009, I had a placement in a grade 1 class, assisting a teacher with the students that possessed learning disabilities. I would take these children out of the classroom and break down their work into smaller steps and give smaller teaching sessions. I would also help with the entire class with their reading, helping them sound out words, and playing word games. I learned a lot about the structure of the classroom, daily routines, and classroom control. I have also had a lot of experience teaching children through swimming instruction. I was a swimming instructor for approximately 3 years, where I taught a variety of classes. I taught all age groups, including older children first aid and leadership classes. I enjoyed creating lesson plans and games to keep the children stimulated, while improving their skills. I am a friendly, patient, easy going person with a passion for teaching children. I am eager to learn new ways of teaching, and improving a child’s English skills. I believe I would be a good asset to this program, and am eager to take on this responsibility. |
