I am attaching this cover letter as per your request in regards to your ESL Teacher position. I have just returned from a year long contract teaching English overseas in Korea and I'm looking to further my career in the educational field.
From August of 2008 until August of 2009 I worked for a Korean hagwon company called Yes Youngdo. I fully enjoyed my time in Seoul and was offered excellent training by my company. My classroom experience includes students ranging in grades from 2nd to 11th grade, teaching English from phonics to the high school English level.
Along with this, the cultural experience also had a profound impact on me. I can easily empathize with students struggling to learn English and am especially sensitive to the fact that they are living in a foreign and may still not be used to the differences. This unique opportunity has given me a better understanding of cultures outside of the United States and how important it is to be sensitive to those.
Prior to teaching in Korea, I spent six months in Los Angeles working for the LAUSD system. I was a tutor employed by the State of California. Our students were generally those in the low-income bracket who could not afford expensive private tutoring. This opportunity also gave me particularly interesting insights into American culture.
