°ÀÇ°æÇè -The Homework Club: (2007-2008)This was an initiative with the VdeP which I was involved with in. This involved going out to disadvantaged schools and helping children with their homework in various subjects after school. I was involved with mostly 11-13 year olds.

-Gaelgie Drama workshops: (2006-2008) This initiative was also with the VdeP and involved going to local schools to teach the Irish language through drama to groups of around 20 children. Through this I have gained valuable experience on the methods of teaching a foreign language.

-Malahide Community School Irish Camp: (summer 2004) This was a summer camp I participated in the summer I left the school. My role was to conduct activities and tours through the Irish language for children aged 8-10.
Ä¿¹ö·¹ÅÍ/À̷¼ To whom it may concern,
I am applying to teach English in South Korea out of a love of both travel and education. My choice of course in college has restricted me in getting formal teaching training but I have still managed to gain experience. The bulk of this has been gained largely through the charity group Vincent de Paul with the homework club and the Gaeilge Irish workshops which I was heavily involved in throughout my time in college. Also with the Irish summer camps I assisted in I have gained valuable experience in the methodology of teaching a foreign language (Irish is a dying language and is rarely spoken throughout Ireland). I feel this experience will be invaluable when teaching English in Korea.
I have also taken initiative and offered formal accounting grinds service to students. Even amongst my fellow classmates I have revelled in opportunities to teach course concepts which they have been unable to grasp and I have thus developed a distinct ability to explain concepts in terms in which they can be easily understood.
I am aware that these experiences deal primarily with small classes but I am confident if faced with a medium-large sized class I will be perfectly able for the challenges that will arise. I have experience in stage performance and am charismatic and outgoing enough to ensure I will be able to teach in these circumstances. I am also enrolling in a TEFL course to enhance my skills in this area and make me more suited to the job.
My love of travel and desire to experience foreign cultures is also a strong driver in my decision. Every year I have been in college I have worked throughout the term and travelled through the summer. This involved a 50 day rail tour of Central and Eastern Europe, living for 3 months in San Francisco, and a tour of Thailand along with visits to Japan and New York. I am well aware of the cultural differences that exist between East and West and have experienced them first hand. I am extremely eager to explore Asian culture and South Korea seems to be an ideal environment in which to do so. Where others may be intimidated or fearful of such difference I revel in the opportunity of experiencing something new and am also 100% I will fall in love with South Korea.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,
Andy McMahon
