RE: English instructor
Dear Sir or Madam,
Thank you for taking the time to review my application for the position of English instructor in South Korea. I have recently completed my undergraduate’s degree in Political Science and Latin American Studies at Simon Fraser University (Vancouver). I am qualified for the position, and offer my relevant education and life experience to teach English in South Korea .
The stengths I bring to the English instructor position are both learned and a product of a multicultural upbringing in Canada. I have also visited and studied in more than twenty countries, due to my curiousity and passion for travel. In addition to language fluency in Spanish and Portuguese, my view of Canada and the World are profoundly and passionately intercultural, as my studies and volunteer work demonstrate. Prior experience in the hospitality industry further equips me to respond and adapt quickly to different people and situations with little difficulty.
During my undergatuate studies I participated in two international exchanges to the Latin American region, the former in Curitiba Federal University (Brazil), involving primary development research and cross-cultural learning. I then completed my fourth year studyingin Latin American where I took Political Science courses at the Belgrano University in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Both experiences have provided me with observation analitical skills essential for English instructor’s job requirements. These include researching, rapid assessment, report writing, relationship building, patience, data collection, and quick adaptability to periods of high intensity.
I have also taken time to visit difficult human environments, one being the Rocinha favela of Rio de Janeiro, and a community of internally displaced persons, in Tumaco,Colombia (a CARE International project). In Argentina, I volunteerd for Habitat Para la Humanidad, an NGO dedicated to solving housing deficits in marginalized Argentine communities. In this position was responsible for delivery workshops on financial planing to the marginalized people we helped. I have a high comfort level in social situations, and value sports as an integral part of health. As an example, I practice the higly interactive “Capoeira” (Brazilian martial) both in Canada and in Latin America. In this continuum of experiences, I have gained both the perspective and competencies which I believe underpin teaching Ennglish as a second language. I look forward to the possibility of meeting with a human resource manager to discuss my application for the English instructor position.
