Re: Teaching:South Korea 2009/10
I am writing in reference to the recent position being advertised on-line for Native English speakers to teach English in South Korea in 2009/10. I have attached a copy of my short résumé,(long version on request) and a recent photograph as requested. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Education, as well as a TEFL Certificate, and numerous other qualifications as listed in my CV. I have over 37 years of teaching experience in numerous subjects and age groups as shown below. I am, at this time, working in Korea under contract to the Gyeongsamnamdo Provincial Office of Education. I hold a both a US passport as I was born in the USA and an Australian one. I did my initial degree in the US, before moving to Australia to teach in 1972. I taught in Australia until last year, when, with my family now independent, I too sought some independence!
As you will discern, I have a real passion for this industry and have always ensured I deliver much more than would normally be expected. I believe I can offer you the benefits from my past positions serving in and attaining experience in roles such as; Classroom Teacher (1972 to 1993 and 1998 to the present), Tutor/Assessor to adults and young adults in numerous modalities (1998 to 2008), Corporate/Industry/Business Consultancy (IT instruction (2006 to 2008), Student Career, Health and Grief Counselor (1990 to 1994 and 2005 to 2008) and as an Acting Deputy Principal (1992). I would like to bring any skills gained from these positions into the role which you are advertising. In addition, I truly love my students and generally form a strong bond with them.
My teaching areas have included:
• English: Full-time English teacher in Geoje-do South Korea: 2008 – 2009
Elementary and Middle school students at HUFS in Seoul 2008
Adult Migrant Educator in Australia: For over seven years, in excess of 1000 hours: 2001 to 2008 P/T only, and privately, (1:1) as well.
Literacy and Numeracy ages 16 and up to people with learning disabilities 1998 – 2006
Business Administration and Information Technology 1998 to 2008
High School students in the 1970¡¯s, ¡®80¡¯s and ¡®90¡¯s in Australia (sporadic depending upon various schools¡¯ requirements)
• Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Science, German, Art, and Biology
• Career Management and Job Search Training (Full time 2006 through 2008) ages 16 to 60+( as part of the Nationally Recognised Business Administration Certificate)
I would be available to commence teaching from early November 2009, as I am contracted in Geoje until September 25th and need to return to Australia for a short time to complete some tasks (income tax etc.). I look forward to having an opportunity to speak with you to discuss the advertised position. Yours sincerely
Cy Kiryk
