I am looking to gain the experience of teaching English as a foreign language in Korea. For the past 2 years I have been working as a science teacher at Worthing High school, teaching pupils between the ages of 12 and 16. I have found this experience very rewarding and love watching pupils achieve in my lessons.
During my career as a teacher I have developed many valuable, transferable skills that will aid me in being successful when teaching English as a second language. I am experienced at assessing pupils learning and differentiating work to meet individual pupil¡¯s needs, I am highly organised and excellent at time management. I have also had the opportunity to attend courses on teaching pupils for whom English is a second language. This has allowed me to develop techniques to facilitate pupils learning when their first language is not English, developing my skills even further in this area is a prospect that excites me.
Between 1997 and 2001 I earned a 2:1 in a 4 year Masters degree of Physics and Astronomy from the University of Southampton. I then went on to further my education in this field and gained a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Sussex in 2007. While studying my PhD I was lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to work for a research fellowship in Tenerife for 3 months. This sparked my enthusiasm for experiencing life in other countries.
During my studies at the University of Sussex I also ran numerous workshops for undergraduate university students which pupils found invaluable to their progress on their degree. This inspired me to teach and to complete a PGCE in secondary teaching at The University of Sussex in 2007, gaining MSc credits in Education.
I am a very enthusiastic teacher with a passion for travel and would love the chance to pursue both by being given the opportunity of teaching English as a foreign language in Korea.
