To Whom It May Concern,

As a second-generation Korean who was born and raised in the United States, I have had a limited number of opportunities in which to truly learn about my culture and heritage.  This is partly due to geography, since where I lived for most of my life had a very small and dispersed Korean population, but also due to my own unwillingness to actively seek out those who could teach me about Korea.  To be sure, I am still a second-generation Korean with a basic understanding of the language, culture, and food, but the knowledge that I have can be expanded greatly.  It is this desire to learn about Korea, coupled with my knowledge of the English language, which makes me an ideal candidate for an English-teaching position in South Korea.

In addition to my personal connection to South Korea, I believe my academic background will contribute to the necessary skills for a teaching position in Korea.  In less than one month, I will hold a Master¡¯s degree in Public Administration from Georgia State University.  I also hold a Bachelor¡¯s degree in Sociology from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.  Both degree concentrations require thorough knowledge of the English language, as scholarly research and report writing are necessary to obtain each degree.  For this reason, Education Adventure can be wholly confident that I have a firm grasp on the English language and will be able to transfer this understanding to any potential students I may have.

Additionally, my future career plans involve pursuing a doctorate in Public Policy with a concentration in international nongovernmental organizations or the interrelatedness of race and ethnicity on public policy.  Not only will teaching in South Korean give me the international experience desired by such an area of study, but the position will also give me teaching experience, which will be required if I become a professor at a university once I obtain a doctorate degree.  These additional motivating factors ensure that I will want to be the best teacher that I can be once I receive a position in Korea.

In any case, I believe that my academic and cultural backgrounds, along with the various motivating factors I have to go to Korea and to teach make me an excellent candidate for an English-teaching position in South Korea.  I would greatly appreciate if we could further discuss my qualifications. You can contact me or leave a message anytime at    I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Jung-In Soh
