To Whom This May Concern:
I am applying for the position of Guest English Teacher. I believe that my education, employment background, and volunteer experience make me an excellent candidate for the position.
I have experience teaching from a number of volunteer positions. In the summer of 2000 volunteered for a leadership position at a day camp for girls. As a leader I was assigned a group of five girls of about eight to twelve years of age. I was responsible for the girls¡¯ whereabouts and general safety, but I also served as a mentor and activity coordinator for the group. In 2003 I volunteered to be a teacher¡¯s assistant at my church¡¯s religious education program. I was assigned to aid a co-teacher in a class of fifth graders. This was a particularly valuable experience because, since the class was conducted in both Spanish and English in order to accommodate all the students, I did half the lessons—my co-teacher did the lessons in Spanish, and I the English lessons. A few years later I volunteered for a mentoring position where I met with a group of adolescents once a month to discuss personal topics of their choosing.
In addition to the experience in teaching and leadership that I gained from volunteering, my employment history has allowed me to acquire some more practical skills that I feel are an essential part of being a good teacher. The majority of my employment and internship history is comprised of either customer service or office assistant jobs. In each of these positions I developed my skills in communication, public relations, organization, planning, and multi-tasking.
Lastly, while I was earning my bachelor¡¯s degree I had the opportunity to study abroad on two occasions. This last detail strengthens my qualifications to be your Guest English Teacher because I have experience living abroad and spending extended periods of time away from home and in different cultural climates.
To sum up, I am confident that the specifications I have listed make me exceedingly qualified for the position of Guest English Teacher— through my volunteer, employment, and study abroad experience I have gained skills that would greatly contribute to your school and your students; not to mention I have the enthusiasm to match!
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Gabriela Rios
