Dear Director,
I wish to apply for a job teaching ESL at your school. I am currently teaching at an ESL academy in South Korea. Having completed the TESOL/TESL certification from Oxford Seminars, I am excited about continuing my teaching career at your school. I am also excited about the possibility of teaching in your country. While I have no preference in regards to the class I will be teaching, you will find that I am well qualified and willing to teach students at any age and level.
I believe that a quality education is essential to having a successful career and life, and that the teacher plays the pivotal role in providing that education. An effective ESL teacher must create and maintain a positive environment that allows for the students¡¯ comprehension of the second language to flourish. Through meticulous work, I will make sure that my students can understand and retain the key concepts for their level of learning.
I have the skills and experience to excel as an ESL teacher. I graduated cum laude from the University of Washington with a Bachelor¡¯s degree in political science and drama. In addition, I have spent the last seven months working for an English academy in Cheju, South Korea. At this academy, I teach students aged 7-15 to improve their speaking, listening, writing and reading skills. Additionally, I help my supervisors create curriculum for new and existing classes. I am willing to do the extra work to help my employers. For example, I recently taught an extracurricular drama class for younger students. During the last day of that class, the students performed a play in front of their parents. Before my current teaching job, I worked for an organization that provides educational opportunities for learning-disabled (LD) children. In that position, I crafted and facilitated classroom projects for both elementary school students and LD students.
Teaching overseas has long been a dream of mine. I studied other cultures and governments in college and have developed a passion for travel. After my amazing experiences in South Korea, I am excited to learn about a new country and culture. After my research, Spain is the country in which I most want to teach. I am quite adaptable to new environments and cultures and will be traveling with my long-term girlfriend.
Enclosed is my resume that provides an outline of my education and experience but do not communicate fully my enthusiasm for teaching overseas.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Benjamin Johnson
