Dear Recruiting Officer,

Re: Teaching Position in Korea

As a recent graduate from the University of British Columbia, I am looking for an exciting and rewarding opportunity to teach English in Korea. I have worked extensively with children, volunteering as an English teacher at a preschool, tutoring in English and Spanish for private families, and having done behavioral intervention therapy with a child diagnosed with autism. I majored in English Literature and hope to pursue a Master¡¯s and PhD in English as well.

My managerial experience and leadership positions in a sorority have allowed me to develop very strong organizational skills. They have also taught me to be patient and demonstrated that I can handle a lot of responsibility. I have a very friendly personality and work well in teams, but my natural inclination to be a leader means that I am not afraid to take charge of a situation. I have excellent writing skills, particularly in formal writing because of my major; moreover, the recruitment aspect of being in a sorority helped me to develop exceptional verbal communication skills. My computer competence is above average and I am very proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly with Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as I had to use these repeatedly with my last employer. Also, on a personal level, I have experience in moving to different countries and I am well prepared to handle the change that would come from moving to Korea. Apart from being fluent in English and Spanish, I have studied other languages, including Japanese and Italian, and I am very confident on my ability to learn Korean.

I believe the combination of my English degree, my work experience and my desire to become a university professor make me an ideal candidate for teaching abroad. Korea has a particular appeal for me since many of my closest friends growing up were Korean, and I developed a strong affection for the people, the food and the culture.  If I was to work in Korea I would not only fulfill what my job entails, but I would also impart my enthusiasm for learning and motivate my students to reach further than just learning vocabulary and grammar.

I would appreciate an opportunity to speak with you and further discuss why I would be a great candidate for teaching in Korea.

Sincerely,

Athena Jackson
