To whom it may concern,
For the past 8 years, I have worked in IT sales and recruitment. Over the past year, I have become increasingly dissatisfied with my career path and have decided to focus on teaching. I was recently accepted for a Graduate Teacher Programme course at a local secondary in the UK, however due to timescales and my decision to move to Korea, this is not a viable option now. I do plan to become an English Teacher in the UK and teaching in Korea would be a superb stepping stone for me.
After visiting Korea several times, I am aware that teaching can be a respectable and fulfilling career path. I am keen to work in a public or private school, teaching Kindergarten & Elementary levels. My preference would be to work through the EPIK programme, but I am open to offers from private schools also. Once in Korea, I will certainly take advantage of learning Korean to an advanced standard, as well as immersing myself in the daily lifestyle. I am already familiar with the various protocols within Korean culture and I am respectful and sensitive in the way that I conduct myself.
My mother has worked in a primary school for 15 years and I have always had a close connection to the school also. Whilst studying A Levels, I spent free periods as a class room assistant and looked after the children at lunch times. During my student years I have also worked with young children with disabilities during summer vacations (for the charity MENCAP) and I now have a 3 year old niece who I regularly babysit. The imagination and creativity of younger children reminds me that as adults, the world can become too serious and I really appreciate the imagination and creativity that the kids bring out in me.
Being a teacher is a very important role in society and comes with much responsibility. I am a mature and responsible professional, but I also have a passion for life and strive to make the best of each day. I believe that I am a patient, diplomatic, friendly and conscientious person, who is really looking forward to arriving in Korea and getting started!
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours Sincerely,
Matthew
