Dear Sir/Madam,
I am interested in teaching English in Busan or Seoul for one year, and I will be available to start from mid-August 2009. I believe I meet the necessary requirements for applicants, as I live in the UK, I have a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, and I have recently obtained a criminal record check.
There are several reasons why I feel I would be good at this job. Firstly, I have often thought about teaching as a career. I have worked with teenagers before both as a temporary teaching assistant, and as a care worker in residential homes. I feel that even if I were only to work in Korea for one year it would be an invaluable experience and introduction to the field.
I also believe my personal characteristics would make me an ideal teacher. I spent much of my youth moving between different places, as my father was in the American Air Force. During this time I learned how to make friends easily. I am also an energetic person, and I understand that young people can have short attention spans, and I have enjoyed using my imagination with teenagers in the past to keep them interested and engaged. I think with some hard work and experience I could be a very good teacher.
I also believe I would settle into life in Korea and its culture without any problems at all. Last year I travelled through South-East Asia for several months. During this time I found it easy to adapt to my surroundings, and enjoyed meeting local people with their unique customs and sensibilities. I have read much about South Korea and it seems to be a common perception that the people there are some of the friendliest in all of Asia, and so I feel it would be a very good choice to teach there. That¡¯s not to mention the weather, which would of course be a welcome change from the gloomy climate of England!
I think the challenge of teaching and the ability to positively influence the development of young people will be extremely rewarding. Combining this with my aspiration to experience more of South-East Asia makes this an ideal opportunity for me.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully
Dale Ransberger
