Dear Sir or Madam,
Hello! My name is Brendan Whitaker-Burke and I would like to apply for the position of English Instructor. I am a graduate of Hunter College and have a B.A. in English Literature. Before attending college, I graduated from Baruch College Campus High School with a Regents certification and an Advanced Placement English Literature score of 4/5 in 2002. Most recently, I received a TESOL/TESL/TEFL certification from Oxford Seminars in New York City.
I love learning, therefore I am sure that I would make an excellent teacher. I am patient, enthusiastic, a quick learner, and highly motivated to teach. I believe that lessons should be carefully organized and know that I must be responsible for their effectiveness. I have worked with children before; I tutored a young boy for a year in his preparation for entry into a competitive high school. Previously to that, I worked at a summer camp in Nova Scotia and am well aware of what it takes to manage groups of children and adults alike. My family holds education in high regard. I was brought up to appreciate and embrace the educational process. My father is the son of a noted writer and my mother is a teacher of English at the Nightingale Bamford School in New York City.
The prospect of education excites me and the practice even more-so. The possibilities inherent in introducing a language full of new words and ideas is truly fascinating to me. I have been surrounded by education and teaching for my entire life and I know how rewarding the profession of teaching can be. I believe that not only is it an opportunity to teach and impart knowledge onto those who wish to acquire it, but also an opportunity to experience new and interesting places, people and cultures. I have travelled to other countries including India and Italy and I am always excited and enthusiastic about taking in different cultural perspectives. I also have great confidence in my ability to become an effective teacher, one who will have an interactive exchange of ideas with the students. I believe that I can challenge them as students to truly excel and that they can challenge me as a teacher as well. The range of my employment experiences is wide; I adapt easily to new and demanding circumstances. I have many computer based skills as well, including proficiency in Mac and PC computers and some audio editing and production knowledge. I believe that with my enthusiasm for education and my knowledge of the English language, I would make an excellent addition to your staff.
