Ä¿¹ö·¹ÅÍ/À̷¼ Dear ELS Agent,

RE: English Teacher

My name is Kathryn McCartin and I write in light of my aspirations to teach English as a foreign language. I see the vocation as a huge challenge that I would be eager to learn from, and a way of embracing and living within foreign cultures while hopefully benefiting pupils in a positive way, opening up a world of communication. I am a recent First Class graduate of Queen¡¯s University Belfast in Drama and English, subjects which I feel are of paramount significance and importance to the task of teaching English as a foreign language in terms of communication, delivery, enthusiasm, group leadership, and a strong grasp of the English language, especially from a grammatical point-of-view. I have also recently undertaken the i-toi weekend TEFL course which offered me huge insight both theoretically and practically into the world of TEFL, giving me the opportunity to deliver a class to both beginner and intermediate levels. It highlighted the necessity of well-planned and structured lessons, visual aids, dramatisation, group-work and allowed me to understand the ¡®back-to-basics¡¯ mode of communication as well as the pace and stages at which progression should take place.

My teaching experiences thus far are also both comprehensive and significant. Having taught sailing to children from eight through to adults, I have gradually developed the ability to plan and organise lessons, taking into consideration different learning styles as well as being versatile and adaptable enough to change course according to given conditions. I have worked as a Camp Councillor at a Summer Camp in the US, specialising in both sailing and drama, which included improvisation, drama games and imaginative role-play situations. I was entrusted with a full-time responsibility and mother-role, which despite its challenges, cemented my aspiration to become a teacher. The benefits of Community Theatre work in terms of teaching have also been extensive, particularly in my school drama workshops focused on anti-bullying, enabling pupils to express their thoughts in a safe, comfortable environment.

It is my goal to combine my range of experience with my ability to be an enthusiastic, stimulating teacher, with the interests and capabilities of each pupil in mind in the hope of making a positive contribution in the entirely new environment of Korea.

I can forward references, certification and my current CPR check at your request, and I thank you for your consideration in this wonderful opportunity and challenge, and look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Yours sincerely,

Kathryn McCartin
