High school diploma earned in May 2003 from Winter Park High School (Winter Park, Florida, USA); Bachelor of Science with a major in Science Pre-professional Studies earned in May 2007 (University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana, USA); Anticipated completion of a Master's in Medical Sciences degree with a concentration in Molecular Medicine in July 2009 (University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa, Florida, USA).
I have been a teacher/tutor for The Princeton Review since August 2007, where I teach GRE, ACT, and SAT classes and private tutorials. I spent May-August 2006 as a summer camp counselor at a camp for diabetic children, ages 5 to 18, where I developed and taught an internet publishing class. Unpaid work experience includes volunteering as an adult literacy tutor for a Tampa-based non-profit organization called I CAN Adult Literacy Coalition, where I work with both adults and high school students who wish to earn GED diplomas. I have also volunteered as a special needs teacher and have done ABA-style "therapy" with students with autism. |

Dear Recruiter,
I am excited about the prospect of having an opportunity to teach in Korea. I am submitting my resume and photos for your consideration.
I am currently a graduate student in the U.S. and I anticipate completion of my master¡¯s degree this summer. I am interested in securing a full-time teaching position between August/September 2009 to August 2010.
I have worked with students as young as 5 and adults as old as 30. I have worked with students in many different capacities, and I think my didactic background will enable me to work well with your students, despite the language barrier.
I was born in Korea but have lived in the U.S. since 1990. While I can read and write Korean to some degree, I no longer speak it very fluently. I look forward not only to teaching others how to read, write, and speak English, but also the opportunity to learn a great deal about my own language and heritage.
I have not been back to Korea since I emigrated in 1990, but I had the opportunity this past summer to travel to Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam for several weeks. In that regard I am not a seasoned traveler but I understand and appreciate the potential challenges of being in a foreign country.
I prefer to work with older students (high school and beyond) but am comfortable working with a wide range of ages.
I look forward to hearing from you with news of available positions.
Yours kindly,
Lisa Lawson |
