Dear Sir/Madam,
I would like to apply for a position as English Instructor for adults at your institute. I believe that I have the qualifications to make me well suited for such a position.
I am a native speaker of English from Canada. I have over ten years' experience instructing mature students (18 years and up) in the Republic of Korea and Canada. I have taught both general English and English for business purposes to students of all levels, from beginners to those with near-native ability. This instruction was given sometimes to groups and sometimes through one-on-one tutoring.
In addition to my years of experience teaching, I have an Honours B.A. in Linguistics & Applied Language Studies and a TEFL certificate; for details, please see my resume.
Aside from being adept at explicating both the fundamentals and finer points of grammar, vocabulary, syntax, usage, etc., my background in Linguistics has made me acquainted with methods useful in helping adult learners to improve their pronunciation and fluency, aspects of language learning that have often been neglected in their earlier years of learning English.
I am also very interested in exploring and discussing the cultural aspects of language use, essential to truly understanding a language.
I enjoyed my many years of instructing Korean students, and look forward to having the opportunity to do so again. I hope that you will find my qualifications match your needs in an instructor. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Anna Pollock
